Psychoanalysis & Therapy
My clinical training is in psychoanalysis, a form of psychodynamic talk therapy. The goal of psychoanalysis is to develop awareness and understanding of unconscious beliefs and patterns of behavior that hold us back and are the source of ongoing suffering.
My particular specialty is early trauma due to difficulties in birth or to neglect, abuse, or cultural prejudice during infancy or childhood. Trauma at any age has lasting effects and can result in behaviors such as alcohol or drug use or other self-destructive actions. Trauma affects our relationships with ourselves and others, often leading to low self-esteem and potentially to conflicts in marriage or with partners.
Changing long-standing patterns of behavior requires developing awareness of emotions that are stirred up in everyday interactions or in specific circumstances. Often the key to discovering these emotions is through becoming sensitive to bodily states. From the body sensations, we can discover feelings, and then thoughts associated with feelings. The different perspective that therapy offers helps establish new and more functional solutions to emotional pain.
I offer in-person sessions in Yreka, CA.
I am also available for remote sessions via HIPAA-compliant video platform or by phone.

Coaching
By defining goals, whether personal or professional, together we explore strategies to move toward such goals and navigate barriers. I offer life coaching in-person or remotely via video or phone.
Equine Option:
Horses are remarkable at touching deep levels in our psyche-soma. The animal connection draws us into our sensory system and from there to emotional connection. Horses are particularly skillful collaborators with people on the autism spectrum, those who suffer from PTSD, and individuals working to manage ADHD. They can reflect our states of being, thus helping us to know ourselves. They are generous companions for when we are grieving.
The equine option is not a riding program, but an opportunity to be in the presence of an animal whose heart is 10 times the size of our own. The effect is powerful. Together we decide how best the horses can facilitate insight and growth. Options include joining the horses in pasture, watching them interact or just be, journaling or drawing, walking together or grooming. All EO sessions include discussion before and after the session to discuss intentions and the experience of being present. Release of liability and safety instructions are required for EO.

Writing / Editing / Tutoring
Writing a memoir? A term paper? A dissertation? A job letter? No matter what you are writing, getting feedback is crucial to your success. Writing helps us think, and the various steps in writing refine the thinking process. I can help generate and clarify ideas, organize information, and refine language. At root, writing is a process in which you will learn about yourself. I offer tutoring in person or remotely via video or phone.
